Product Lines - LiteShield (Cutoff) Luminaries
We want the stars to shine as brightly as
when we cast our first lamp post 160 years ago. The Spring City foundry has
stood firmly along the banks of the Schuylkill River in Pennsylvania since
1843. We are widely known as the leader in traditional outdoor lighting and
lamp post design. For decades, our products have allowed Americans to work,
travel, or play safely at night, contributing to the lifestyle we all enjoy
today. But, as the amount of outdoor lighting has increased, so has the amount
of light intrusion in our skies, and light trespass onto nearby sites.
That's why Spring City is offering a
product line that will combine our well-known, traditional styles with the
latest light-control technology. None of the benefits of modern lighting will
be lost. But, by controlling the light output at its source, LiteShield
Luminaries will direct more light to places where it's needed and less light to
where it's not. The technology is in place. Public awareness is growing. As
enlightened designers, manufacturers, buyers and administrators, it is within
our power to promote the change to controlled illumination on our streets and
darker
skies above them.
What is a cutoff luminaire?
The Illuminating Engineering Society (IES)
defines luminaire performance by the amount of light (candela) that exits the
luminaire above 80 degrees, when viewing the luminaire from the side. IES
allows a luminaire to be classified as "cutoff" only if the candela per 1000
lamp lumens does not exceed 25 candela at or above an angle of 90 degrees, and
100 candela at or above 80 degrees. Photometric Testing should be Performed at
the photometric center, which may or may not be the lamp Location, depending
upon the construction of the optical system.
