City of Topeka, Kansas to Hold Press Conference on Their Switch to LED Street-Lighting

Topeka Upgrade Streets with LED Fixtures from

 Spring City Electrical Manufacturing Company

Spring City, P.A., February 16, 2011The City of Topeka, Kansas will be hosting a press conference to announce their conversion of their decorative post top luminaires to energy-efficient LED lighting at 10 o’clock central time on February 16th at City Hall.  The city upgraded their decorative pedestrian lighting by using a custom LED conversion kit made by Spring City Electrical Manufacturing Company, featuring Cree’s XLamp® MC-E and XP-E LEDs.  The electronic circuit board engineering and fabrication was done by a division of Heatron of Leavenworth, KS.

Topeka was able to recycle components of their traditional streetlight when switching their lighting system to LED technology.  Spring City provided the city with a new LED system which consists of a new COOLCASTTM heat dissipating thermal management roof equipped with Spring City’s CrossfireTM LEDs LM-79 Caliper rated optical systems and a new globe and driver.  The city was able to keep the bottom of the fixture (fitter) to save on price as well as re-use the existing fitters.

Spring City supplied Topeka with four hundred and nine conversion LED kits.  The city chose three variations of wattages of 100, 80 and 60 Watt systems and delivers light comparable to a 175-watt metal halide lamp (plus ballast equals 200 watts). Spring City projects an energy savings of up to 50 percent and to be maintenance free for seven years or longer.

“By utilizing a custom LED conversion kit, Topeka was able to maintain the same appearance of their traditional light fixture and save money on energy and maintenance expenses,” said Alan Brink, President of Spring City Electrical.
